The Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Collab Is a Cozy-Cool Dream
The menswear world got a little collaboration-drunk a few years back, flooding the zone with “special projects” that didn't exactly illustrate the dreamwork of teamwork. The just-launched Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer collab has learned some lessons from those manic days, though. The nine-piece, outerwear-heavy collection brings both brands' A-game together for clothing that actually makes sense—and leaves us desperately wanting everything. That's what happens when legendary Eddier Bauer pieces get upgraded and suffused with Buck Mason's strolling-amongst-redwoods California chill.
To kick off the partnership, the Buck Mason team swan-dived into the E.B. archives, Scrooge McDuck-style, and surfaced with two fistfuls of vintage gold. Which isn't hard to do, considering the place Eddie Bauer holds in performance outerwear history. See, back when the man wasn't yet a mall store, a near-death bout with hypothermia in Alaska led him to patent using diamond quilting on a down jacket so it was both toasty and breathable. Eddie's name blew up not long after, when soldiers stationed in Alaska during World War II heard about this outfitter who'd cracked the code on how to stay warm in frigid temps.
Thus the Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer collab goes long on both outdoorsy SoCal cool and winter-ready warmth, headlined by a revival of Bauer's patented jacket, the Skyliner. Like most pieces in the collab, it carries the original's boxy fit, but gets upgraded with a water-resistant treatment, softer cotton-wool ribbing on the wrists and collar, and eco-friendly down inside. From the CPO to the flight jacket, the pants to the scarf, the capsule collection is a cozy man's quilted dream.
Unfortunately, The Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer collection does suffer from one collab pitfall: it's limited edition. You can shop the entire Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer collaboration, or scroll down to see each piece—just don't get too comfy until after you've secured the goods.
