We’ll be the first to admit that sometimes celebrities’ wildest, gutsiest, newsworthiest fits don’t translate to those of who aren’t commuting to a red carpet. (Love you, though, Timmy.) But for every fashion envelope-pusher, there are plenty of famous guys offering real, usable style inspiration that keeps its feet planted on solid ground. Right now, there may be no better example of a paparazzi king getting off fits that you (or anyone else) could wear than Nick Jonas.
In the last month, we’ve seen the JoBro strut through New York in looks that are anchored in menswear classics: workwear pants, denim jackets, military-inspired outerwear, and rugged boots. What brings these fits into 2023 is how well Jonas built on this time-tested foundation with standout pieces. Let’s go to the tape.
In this example, Jonas wore a dark hoodie under a leather-yoked, corduroy vest— a move that’s both pragmatic (not freezing to death in NoLiTa) and brings some yee-haw texture to match his pair of beat-up double-knee pants and chunky Chelsea boots.
In another strong move, a bright red doodle-adorned hoodie prevents Jonas’s swagger-filled, shearling-lined RRL denim coat (worn with the same pair of double-knees, because he’s just like us) from reading as ranch-hand cosplay.
Then there’s the simple way Jonas dialed in a blue-on-blue look—a simple peacoat and raw denim jeans—with a camel-colored cardigan. Okay, and some stompin’ Gucci boots. (For the record, any brawny black boots would do the trick if you’re trying to play along at home.)
These aren’t quantum theory style moves designed to earn Nick Jonas an express ticket to the Met Gala. (To be honest, he’s probably already on the list.) They’re just some sartorially smart plays that turn up the dial and make you feel like a celebrity—even if your only paparazzi are friends asking where you got those pants.
